Lone candidate running in Sunfish Lake special election

In Sunfish Lake, one name will appear on the ballot for the special city council election, which is needed after a council member was appointed to the mayor's seat.

Incumbent Mayor Dan O'Leary is running unopposed, as are incumbent council members Mike Hovey and JoAnne Wahlstrom.

Shari Hansen, 55, is the lone candidate in the special election and says she was asked to fill the position. Hansen lives in the city with her husband Paul and works as a decluttering coach for Heartstone, LLC.

She has an MBA in marketing from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Hansen said the top challenges facing the city include traffic issues and being more aware of recycling.

If elected, Hansen said she would prioritize "recycling education and looking at ways to reduce traffic on our side streets."

Other uncontested races in the South-West Review coverage area include Dakota County Sheriff, held by Tim Leslie; Dakota County Attorney, held by James Backstrom; and Mendota mayor and council, held by Brian Miekle and Melody Rasmussen respectively.
