LETTER: Vote for Jay Xiong Nov. 6

To the Editor:

We are Jay Xiong's parents and we want to share with you a little bit about our son who is running for House District 67B and encourage you to vote for him Nov. 6.

As our oldest child, he's a symbol of the hard work we strive to achieve as refugees and immigrants who arrived in America 40 years ago.

As Jay's mother, I am proud because he helped raise his siblings like his own children, being forced to grow up fast, as I spent two decades working in an assembly plant. It was with the support of our children that we were able to make it work and now I run my own business.

As Jay's father, I could not be more proud to call him our oldest child. Never one to back down from hardship, challenges and opportunities for serving others, Jay has always led by example. When I came to this great country as a veteran, I had hard work and a strong will to provide for my family.

We struggled, relying on public housing and assistance while I worked as a janitor. I suffered a stroke a few years ago and it's been difficult for us, but one thing that will never be taken away from me is the pride and affection I have for my children. Jay's hard work lives on in his drive to serve all of us.

Nothing makes us happier knowing our son wants to dedicate his service to friends and neighbors.
