LETTER: From coach to council member, I back Springhorn

To the Editor:

Voting is an exciting time, especially for new voters like me. I am an 18-year-old college student voting for the first time this year. I will be voting to re-elect Cory Springhorn to the Shoreview City Council.

I first met Cory when I was in fourth grade and he was one of the coaches for my robotics team. Back then, I was impressed by his ability to lead people, encourage others and stay committed. Today, he continues to inspire and remains a positive leader in our community.

Before and during his term on the council, Cory got young people engaged in city matters — when coaching my team, he invited the Shoreview Bikeways and Trails Committee to one of our practices where we presented our research project on bike safety to them, and he has often invited robotics teams to city council meetings to present their research about real-world issues. While serving on the council, Cory has also continued to volunteer for robotics programs as a tournament official and as a coach for local teams.

Cory actively reaches out to young eligible voters like me, encouraging us to register to vote and to request absentee ballots while we’re away at college. Please join me in voting to re-elect Cory Springhorn to the Shoreview City Council!
