Sheriff’s office dispels rumors of sex traffickers in Arden Hills and Shoreview

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office posted a statement on Facebook to respond and dismiss Facebook rumors of sex traffickers scouting potential victims at the Arden Hills McDonalds on County Road E and the Shoreview Target on Lexington Avenue.

In the Sept. 17 statement, the sheriff’s office said deputies went to the Arden Hills McDonald’s the night of Sept. 13 after receiving a call about a “suspicious situation.” Deputies spoke to parties involved and determined that the situation was of two women receiving “unwanted attention” from two other people at the McDonald’s.

“This was NOT a case in which individuals were being scouted for human trafficking involvement,” wrote the sheriff’s office.

The RCSO added it has also received questions about the Target in Shoreview, but that the sheriff’s office has “no indication” that any specific location in Shoreview or Arden Hills is “a favorite location for human traffickers.”

The sheriff’s office said that human trafficking is an issue in Minnesota, as well as the entire nation and world, and that its an issue that it takes seriously.

It also offered safety tips, like being aware of surroundings, guardians talking to their kids to let them know they should tell someone if something doesn’t feel right, and for anyone to call 911 if they feel threatened.
