ISD 199 residents invited to add feedback on school start and end times at special meeting

After two years of gathering research, providing information, and collecting feedback, the Inver Grove Heights Schools Start and End Time Review Committee recommended a flipped start and end time schedule for the district at the June 25, regular ISD 199 School Board meeting. The flipped schedule would have secondary schools in class from 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. and elementary schools in class from 7:50 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The board is currently deciding whether to flip the school schedule as recommended by the committee or keep the current schedule, 7:40 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for secondary schools and 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. for elementary schools.

As part of their decision process, the ISD 199 School Board is inviting anyone who would like to speak on this topic to attend a Special Meeting for Public Comment on Oct. 1, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the Simley High School Spartan Center, 2920 80th St. E., in Inver Grove Heights. To encourage community participation and conduct the meeting properly and efficiently, each speaker will have three minutes to address the board on start and end times. The purpose of the special meeting is for the board to listen to the public’s comments on school start and end times before their decision, they will not respond to or discuss speaker comments at the meeting.

Any public comments on school start and end times should be provided at the Oct. 1 special meeting as there will not be an opportunity at the Oct. 22 board meeting when members are scheduled to take action. The Oct. 22 board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Hilltop Elementary School, 3201 68th St. E. in Inver Grove Heights.

Updates about the school start and end time decision and research that the committee used to determine their recommendation is available at, the school district’s website.
