MV Youth in Government getting underway

Youth in Government, a program for students in eighth through twelfth grade, is getting underway in Mounds View. Participants get to improve their leadership and public speaking skills, meet people from across the state, learn how state government works and have fun — activities include a talent show, governor’s ball and more. While Youth in Government is geared towards students interested in government and politics, the skills learned are relevant to most pursuits. The program culminates with a four-day conference Jan. 10-13 at the Capitol.

A student/parent meeting is being held at the Mounds View Community Center on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 6 to 7 p.m. For those unable to make that meeting, the first Youth in Government session of the year is Tuesday, Oct. 2, also at the Mounds View Community Center. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. is for eighth-graders; from 7 to 8 p.m. is for high-schoolers.

Though the program is geared toward Mounds View Public Schools students, it’s also open to Roseville students since they do not have their own delegation. The community center is located at 5394 Edgewood Drive in Mounds View. For more information contact delegation director Brittany Wilson at 763-717-4043 or
