Oakdale Toastmaster receives Distinguished Toastmasters award

Discovery Toastmasters Club President, Gary Moore, presents the prestigious Distinguished Toastmaster award to member Mary Torno on Aug. 27 at the Oakdale Public Library.

Mary Torno, a member of Discovery Toastmasters, the Oakdale chapter of Toastmasters International, received on Aug. 27 the Distinguished Toastmasters award, the organization’s top individual award.

This is Mary’s 4th Distinguished Toastmasters award and reflects a personal goal of giving over 40 formal speeches, leadership positions at the Club and District level, and coaching and mentoring programs she initiated and completed for fellow members and clubs. Only about 5 percent of all 340,000 worldwide Toastmaster members achieve the Distinguished Toastmasters designation.

Discovery Toastmasters meets every Monday at the Oakdale Public Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N., from noon to 1 p.m., except for federal holidays. For more information about Discovery Toastmasters, please visit www.discovery.toastmastersclubs.org.
