INQUIRING MINDS: Where to find archived newspaper articles

Each week the staff at the Roseville Library answers more than 2,500 questions on every subject under the sun. Here’s one of the most interesting ones they’ve gotten lately.

Q. How would I find archived St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper articles from the 1970s?

A. Our Ramsey County Library offers digital online archives of the “Pioneer Press” back to 1987. For articles from before that year, you will need to seek out libraries which still maintain microfilm records of earlier newspapers. Both the Saint Paul Public Library and the Minnesota History Center Newspaper Library have newspapers on microfilm, but the History Center’s Newspaper Collection in downtown Saint Paul is particularly extensive.
