Caught red-handed in St. Anthony

Arden Hills

More to the story?

A 37-year-old Brooklyn Park man told police around 6 a.m. on July 9 that his car had been stolen from the 3100 block of Lake Johanna Boulevard; he’d left the keys in the glove box but it was locked. The car turned up in New Brighton around 9:45 a.m. that same day, with a passenger-side window smashed out. The keys were in the ignition but the man was missing a curious list of items: a watch, a gold chain and his wedding band. Also missing were the car’s license plates.

Lock the garage

A 75-year-old woman who lives in the 1900 block of Autumn Street told police the morning of July 9 that someone had gotten into her unlocked garage sometime overnight and stolen two bikes and roughly $10 in change out of the car parked inside it.

Reports out of Lauderdale were not available this week.

Little Canada

I’ll finish in the morning ...

A 44-year-old man told police the morning of July 8 that someone stole his $400 lawn mower that had been left in the front yard of his home in the 2400 block of Rice Street.

More than just road rage

Around midnight July 8, a strange incident unfolded at the McDonald’s in the 2200 block of Rice Street. A man got out of his car and confronted a teenager in another car, calling the younger male a terrorist and threatening his life, while implying he had a gun in his waistband — this was all over an apparent driving issue. The teen drove around the fast food restaurant and called 911. The belligerent man was gone by the time police arrived.

Brevity is a virtue

In its entirety, a June 28 animal complaint police report says, “Civil issue regarding a cat at Wildwood Manor.”

Garage burglary

A person who lives in the 5500 block of Landmark Circle called police the morning of June 28 to report someone burglarized their detached garage.

New Brighton

Armed robbery

The female clerk at On the Run Gas Station in the 200 block of Fifth Street NW told police in the early morning hours of July 9 a man walked behind the counter and put a 10 to 12-inch-long knife to her back and neck and told her to give him all the money in the cash register. The man made off with $250.

Gas and go

Someone filled up with $35.89 worth of gas at the Exxon gas station in the 200 block of County Road E2 the afternoon of July 11 and then left without paying.

Inside job?

Employees of a carpet company located in the 600 block of County Road E arrived at work July 9 to find someone had broken a window on the building and stolen a safe from it — the business’ bank refuses to tell law enforcement how much money was in the safe without a subpoena. The company says the safe was stored in a very specific place, so the burglary and theft was likely carried out by someone with insider knowledge.

St. Anthony

Police arrested a 30-year-old man June 26 at apartments in the 2800 block of Silver Lane for trespassing and driving with a revoked license. He and a 27-year-old woman he was with were wanted by Burnsville police for an assault warrant, so the two were handed over to Burnsville PD.

A 40-year-old woman was pulled over June 29 and cited for driving with a revoked license in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road. Officers wanted to know the identity of a passenger in the car, who identified himself with a name that was not on file. When told he’d need to be fingerprinted, he got out of the car and ran. Police eventually identified the person as a 17-year-old boy who is wanted for a Washington County misdemeanor warrant. Police tried to contact his parents but couldn’t; he could be charged with misdemeanor fleeing police, giving false information to police and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Bicycle belligerence

A 50-year-old woman called the police from apartments in the 2800 block of 39th Avenue July 1 to report that her 28-year-old son had stolen her bicycle. When officers arrived, they were told the bike had been returned, and the woman wanted no further police action. Officers were told that the son was banned from the apartment property, and police later tracked the man down to let him know of that fact.

Good deed gone bad

A 70-year-old man told police June 25 he was approached by a younger stranger who was asking for help and cash. The man took the stranger to his bank, where the unknown man used the older man’s bank card to make an ATM withdrawal of $40, or so the older man thought. Later, the 70-year-old realized the stranger had withdrawn $200 from his account. The man gave police a description of the younger man and the case is pending further investigation.

Underage drinking

A couple 20-year-olds, a man and a woman, were caught June 28 in the 4000 block of Foss Road for underage drinking. Each were arrested and cited and released to the care of a family member.
