Arden Hills

Cigarette heist of the year

Around 2:30 a.m. March 10 a man walked behind the counter of the Holiday gas station in the 1900 block of Highway 96 and stole 60 cartons of cigarettes, fleeing in a red minivan. By law, the minimum retail price of a carton of Marlboro cigarettes is $89.37 — other brand prices vary — so the man potentially made off with more than $5,000 worth of smokes.


Dirty rotten scoundrel

During the lunch hour on March 7, a man took the donation box for the Give Kids the World Village Foundation from the unattended front counter area at the Perkins in the 3800 block of Lexington Avenue into the bathroom, emptied the box of some $30, and left.

Scared dog

A deputy headed to the 1400 block of Larpenteur Avenue March 9 on a report of a small, frightened and unattended dog on a front porch. The deputy took the pup to an animal shelter.




An officer saw a car pulled over on Highway 280 at Larpenteur Avenue March 2 with its emergency lights flashing; the driver and a passenger switched places and then the car continued driving. The officer pulled the car over. The driver, a 38-year-old man, was arrested and cited for giving false information to police, driving an uninsured vehicle, failure to transfer his vehicle’s title, driving with a revoked license and having expired registration; he ended up being booked at the Ramsey County Jail on an outstanding Hennepin County warrant for no insurance. The passenger in the car, a 25-year-old woman, was arrested and cited for a learner’s permit violation.


Broken window

A 44-year-old man told police March 4 that someone threw a rock through the back window of his car as it was parked overnight in the 1600 block of Carl Street, shattering the window.


Little Canada


A 54-year-old man told police March 13 that his storage unit in the 200 block of County Road B2 had been burglarized in the days prior. Among the $20,000 or so worth of items stolen, losses included suits, a sound system, a vacuum, power tools, $10,000 worth of East African and Arab cultural clothing and some 500 — $7,000 worth — of traditional coffee cups.


Chain of thefts

On March 4, a 33-year-old woman had her purse stolen — inside it was a spare car key. Around 5:40 a.m. on March 9, she reported the theft of her once-locked car from the 100 block of Yorkton Road. It turned up around 7:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Country Drive, located by OnStar, but the thief had stolen the woman’s $200 child seat.


Mounds View

Accident with injuries

Officers responded to the intersection of Quincy Street and Terrace Drive March 4 for an accident with injuries and ended up citing a 29-year-old Mounds View man involved in the crash for careless driving, driving with a revoked license and having no insurance.


Computer fix fraud

A caller told police March 8 that someone called them after their computer locked up, claiming to be Microsoft. The mystery person charged the Mounds View resident $1,300 to unlock the computer.


Suspicions confirmed

Officers checked out a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 2700 block of Mounds View Boulevard the night of March 11. They ended up arresting the driver, a 33-year-old St. Paul man, for possession of stolen license plates and displaying stolen license plates. The passenger, a 39-year-old Ramsey man, was also arrested, for an outstanding animal cruelty warrant out of Anoka County. Both were booked at the Ramsey County Jail.


New Brighton

Stolen cars

A 58-year-old man reported the theft of his locked, green 2001 Honda CR-V from the 400 block of Old Highway 8 on March 12. That same day a 28-year-old woman reported the theft of her unlocked, 2003 Buick Century Custom from the 700 block of Fifth Street SW.



Police were told that four men stole some $10 of stuff form a convenience store in the 2000 block of Silver Lake Road March 13 — they made off with a Brisk soft drink, two bags of chips and some air fresheners.



Restaurant lot robbery

Just after 9 a.m. March 9 a 43-year-old woman was sitting in her parked car in the Red Robin lot in the 1000 block of Gramsie Road when a man opened the car’s passenger door and demanded she give him money. She said she didn’t have any, and the man grabbed her cell phone and purse. The two tussled; the man broke free with the woman’s purse and phone, dropping the handbag as he saw another car pull into the parking lot. Police are investigating. The police report did not say if the woman was injured.


Stolen refrigerator

Someone reported a stolen refrigerator March 9 from a home being remodeled in the 600 block of Sunset Court. A contractor is a possible suspect.


St. Anthony

Banned from the supermarket

Employees at the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road reported Feb. 26 four men were in the store — two of them were known to have caused problems there in the past and are suspected of having stolen merchandise. All four men were told they’d be cited for trespassing if they returned to the store.



A 39-year-old man was arrested March 2 at apartments in the 2500 block of 38th Avenue for possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine — and an outstanding Hennepin County theft warrant. He was booked at the Ramsey County Jail.

Officers headed to the Caribou Coffee in the 2700 block of 39th Avenue March 3 because an employee suspected someone was doing drugs in the bathroom. Police questioned a 34-year-old man who admitted to using meth in the bathroom; he was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for felony fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.



Officers headed to the intersection of 29th Avenue and Anthony Lane March 1 on a report of a fender bender accident. One of the drivers, a 53-year-old man from Fridley, was arrested and booked at the Hennepin County Jail for fourth-degree DWI — he blew a .14 blood alcohol concentration.


Leave the meat, take the blender

A man ran out of the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road Feb. 26 having stolen some meat and a blender. An employee confronted him outside; the man threw the blender into a waiting car and dropped the meat, hopping into the car. Police were given the car’s license plate number and checked the area but didn’t find the thief. The blender was worth $280.


Remove valuables from the unlocked car

A 62-year-old woman told police Feb. 26 that someone stole two iPads and an iPhone from her unlocked car as it was parked in the 2500 block of St. Anthony Boulevard. She’s out $300.


Soda jerks

An employee at the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road reported the theft of a case of soda March 4. Police tracked down the pop-nabber’s car and recovered the beverages, with one of the people in the car admitting the theft. Nobody was charged, though the driver was cited for a curfew violation and all the occupants were told not to go back to Cub, lest they receive a trespassing citation.


Stolen car, counterfeit cash

Officers ran a check on a car March 1 near the intersection of 40th Avenue and Stinson Boulevard and the car came up as stolen out of Minneapolis, so they performed a felony-stop. The driver, a 34-year-old man, was arrested for felony motor vehicle theft and possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine. The passenger, a 20-year-old female, was arrested on an assault warrant out of Dakota County. Both were booked at the Ramsey County Jail. Additionally, officers found counterfeit bills in the car, which were turned over to the Secret Service.


Stolen van

A 70-year-old man told police that his work van, worth $2,000, was stolen from his driveway overnight into Feb. 28 from the 3600 block of Penrod Lane. The man said the van contained $12,000-$14,000 worth of tools.


Wallet’s lost ...

A 42-year-old woman told police March 1 she’d forgotten her wallet at a register while buying groceries at the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road; there was no sign of the wallet at the store when she realized it was missing. The wallet contained her ID, some cash and credit cards.
