HH-2017: Minnesota Sinfonia free holiday-themed concert

Katia Tesarczyk

The Minnesota Sinfonia orchestra will be joined by talented young violin soloist Katia Tesarczyk for two concerts, Dec. 1 at St. Paul’s First Covenant Church. 1280 Arcade St. at 7 p.m., and Dec. 2 in Minneapolis at the Basilica of St. Mary, 1600 Hennepin Ave., at 2 p.m.

Both concerts are free, and children are welcome to attend.

The program will include a mix of lighter fare including carols, waltzes, familiar holiday classics and show tunes.

For an added holiday treat, concert-goers are invited to a special tour of the Basilica before the Saturday concert at 1 p.m., and to view the Basilica’s special exhibition of more than 200 works of art and nativity scenes from around the world.

The professional orchestra musicians will be joined by 16 year old Tesarczyk, who won the MN Sinfonia’s annual Young Artist Competition back in April.

She will be playing on an 1870 Paul Bailly violin, generously on loan to her by the Virtu Foundation.

Tesarczyk attends Central High School in St. Paul, and began studying violin at the age of four. She has won numerous competitions, soloed with other orchestras and participated in international music festivals.
