The North Suburban St. Paul Kiwanis Club, which meets in Roseville on Monday nights, will once again be at the Minnesota State Fair this year running the Kiwanis Malts shop.

The club, which is nearly 6 decades old, has run the shop since 1969.

According to Kiwanis member Todd Levig, Kiwanis Malts brought in some $90,000 during last year’s Great Minnesota Get-Together, and all that money is put into Kiwanis’ community projects.

Such projects include the five “Reading Oases” the club has installed or has planned for area schools.

For the Reading Oasis projects, North Suburban St. Paul Kiwanis partners with Scholastic Books to give schools an influx of fresh reading material, along with a place in each school to read it.

On Aug. 7, Kiwanis members installed a Reading Oasis at Edgerton Elementary School, just in time for the new school year.

Kiwanis Malts is open every day during the State Fair, which runs Aug. 24 to Sept. 4. The shop is located near the 4-H and Fine Arts buildings, near Wright Avenue and Cosgrove Street.
