MVHS senior claims third at conference Nordic meet

Mark Ousdigian is wrapping up his final season as a member of the Mounds View High School boys Nordic ski team. He has at least one competition left and is hoping to make it two.

Ousdigian, a senior, and his Mustangs teammates head to Bloomington this week for the Section 4 state-qualifying meet. He is looking to advance to state for the second consecutive year.

Ousdigian’s most recent competition was the Suburban East Conference championships on Feb. 1 at Mississippi National Golf Links in Red Wing. For the second straight year, Ousdigian finished third in the pursuit standings, which are compiled by adding up each competitor’s times from the classic and skate races.

Ousdigian finished third and earned all-conference honors with a pursuit time of 27 minutes, 48 seconds. His time of 12 minutes, 54 seconds in the skate race was the top time for all competitors in the meet. Ousdigian was fourth in the classic race with a time of 14 minutes, 54 seconds.

Mounds View sophomore Ty Christianson and senior Spencer Pauly picked up all-conference honorable mention nods by finishing 23rd and 24th, respectively. Also competing at the conference meet for Mounds View were seniors Peter Kennedy (34th), Michael Morey (36th), Travis Walbon (39th), Benjamin Ebert (41st) and Aaron Marx (48th) and sophomores Nathan Hohenshell (37th) and Nate Moller (49th).

As a team, Mounds View finished fourth in the standings with 397 points. Stillwater, ranked third in the state, won the conference team title with 478 points, seventh-ranked Forest Lake was second at 454 points and Roseville landed in third place with 415 points.

In the girls’ competition, Mounds View took home sixth place with 323 points. The top three schools in the girls’ standings were the same as in the boys as Stillwater, ranked third in the state, won it with 479 points. Fifth-ranked Forest Lake was the runner-up with 457 points and Roseville finished third with 428 points.

Junior Katherine Sheldon recorded Mounds View’s top pursuit time. She completed the two races in 39 minutes and 14 seconds to finish in 36th place in the individual standings.

Also competing in the conference meet for the Mustangs were seniors Talia Miller, Sarah Schmidt-Dannert, Kristina Quanbeck and Anna Smith; junior Ina Poecher; sophomores Sydney Menne, Gabby Olson and Amelia Podolny; and eighth grader Aurora Weirens.
