The Roseville Area High School gymnastics team returned to competition last week after a hiatus over the holiday break. The Raiders opened the 2017 portion of the 2016-17 schedule with a visit to Woodbury for a Suburban East Conference dual meet.

Roseville improved to 4-0 on the season by posting a team score of 139.75 at the Jan. 5 event. Woodbury’s team score was 128.925.

The senior trio of Kayla Soplata, Olivia Rosenow and Jessica Strecker were responsible for most of the Roseville’s top event scores. Soplata won the all-around with a four-event total of 36.175 and Rosenow was next at 35.625.

Rosenow led the Raiders on vault with a 9.275 and on beam with an 8.9. Soplata had Roseville’s top uneven bars score at 9.025 and Strecker was the top Raider on the floor exercise as she scored a 9.25.

Also participating in the varsity meet for Roseville were seniors Haley Macklem, Kaitlyn Minder and Alex Berthiaume and juniors Kirsten Zuppan and Allison Weiker.

In addition to the victory over Woodbury, Roseville has also beaten White Bear Lake, Park-Cottage Grove and East Ridge in Suburban East Conference duals.

Roseville participated in a multi-team invitational at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Jan. 7, past the deadline for this edition of the Review.

The Raiders are in action twice this week, starting Jan. 12 with a home conference dual against Forest Lake at 6 p.m. They then venture to Lakeville for an invitational on Jan. 14 at North High School.

Lakeville North was the No. 1-rated team in the state in Class AA according to the rankings released by the state coaches association earlier this month. Defending state champion St. Cloud Tech was second, Owatonna came in at No. 3 and Roseville was ranked fourth. Stillwater, a fellow Suburban East Conference and Section 4AA team, was 10th.
