RAHS girls basketball off to fast start

The Roseville Area High School girls basketball team, which won more than 20 games last season, is off to a hot start to this season. The Raiders went 3-0 in the first week of the season.

Roseville kicked off the 2016-17 campaign with a 75-49 win over Irondale on Nov. 29 and followed that up with a 67-38 victory over Chanhassen on Dec. 1. The Raiders were also successful in their first road test as they topped Blaine 65-55 on Dec. 3.

Senior captain Kaia Porter led the Raiders in scoring over those three games with a 20.7 points-per-game average. She hit for 18 against Irondale, scored 19 in the Chanhassen game and poured in 25 against Blaine.

Also averaging double figures is Jolisa Ross, who averaged 12.3 points per contest. Her season high so far is 16, which she got in the opener against Irondale.

Roseville opened Suburban East Conference play at Cretin-Derham Hall on Dec. 9, past the deadline for this edition of the Review.

The Raiders host Mounds View on Dec. 13 and venture to Stillwater on Dec. 16. They close out the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule with a non-conference road game against Anoka on Dec. 22.
