Beacons football: On the road again

If it seems as though Concordia Academy’s football team hasn’t played a home game in a while, it’s not your imagination. The Beacons played their last two games away from home and do so again this week.

This week’s road trip is probably worth it, however, as Concordia Academy gets the chance to play in a college stadium.

Concordia Academy faces St. Agnes Sept. 23 and the Aggies play their home games at SeaFoam Stadium on the campus of Concordia University in St. Paul. The Beacons haven’t played St. Agnes at SeaFoam Stadium since 2012.

Concordia Academy enters Friday’s game trying to snap a three-game losing streak against St. Agnes. The Aggies made it three in a row over the Beacons with a 26-19 victory last year.

Prior to the losing streak, Concordia had beaten St. Agnes in 2012 and 2011 after not playing the Aggies for five straight seasons. Three of those years (2008-2010) were when St. Agnes left the Tri-Metro Conference in football.

Concordia Academy opened 2016 with a come-from-behind win over Spectrum and followed that up with a week-two loss to Breck. The Mustangs led by 25 before the Beacons were able to score their first points, which didn’t happen until the fourth quarter.

Breck led 19-0 at halftime and after a scoreless third quarter opened the fourth with its fourth touchdown of the game.

Concordia Academy got on the board two minutes into the fourth quarter on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Adam Maser to Cooper Wood. Breck then added two more scores later in the fourth quarter.

Concordia Academy paid a visit to Minneapolis Henry in week three, past the deadline for this edition of the Review.
