Beacons football is back on the road for week three

Week three wasn’t kind to the Concordia Academy football team in 2015 and the Beacons are out to avoid that same fate this season. Concordia visits Minneapolis Henry on Sept. 16 in hopes of not letting a three-game road trip derail any momentum.

Henry, which beat Minneapolis Southwest in week one, handed Concordia Academy a 48-7 defeat in week three in 2015 and the Beacons went on to lose the rest of their regular-season games.

Concordia opened the 2016 season on Sept. 2 by rallying for a 20-16 victory over Spectrum. The Beacons trailed by 16 points in the third quarter before scoring 20 unanswered points to grab the victory.

Senior quarterback Adam Maser used a big play to get the comeback started. Maser scored on a 78-yard run to pull the Beacons to within 10 points.

Concordia made it a three-point game after Jordan Osby’s two-yard touchdown run and an extra point by senior kicker Charlie Testad.

The Beacons took their one and only lead of the game in the fourth quarter on another long scoring play. Senior running back Cooper Wood got free for an 89-yard touchdown run. Testad’s PAT made the final score 20-16.

Following the Minneapolis Henry game, Concordia Academy takes on St. Agnes on Sept. 23 at SeaFoam Stadium at Concordia University in St. Paul. The Beacons then return home on Sept. 30 to host St. Paul Como Park for homecoming.

Concordia Academy visited Breck on Sept. 9. Results of the games from week two were not available for this edition of the Review.
