Week two football matchups

With week one in the books, the Review area high school football teams have an idea of what works and what needs to be worked on more. They’ll use that information to prepare for week two, which has Hill-Murray and North on the road and Tartan at home.

Hill-Murray heads to West St. Paul to take on Henry Sibley. The Pioneers are looking to snap a three-game losing streak against the Warriors. Hill-Murray last beat Sibley 17-0 in week five of the 2012 season.

The Pioneers opened the season last week against Tartan.

North, after hosting South St. Paul in its season opener last week, heads out on the road and takes on a team that it lost to twice last year. St. Thomas Academy welcomes the Polars on Friday. The Cadets beat North in week two of the regular season last year and also in the first round of the state tournament.

Tartan is at home for the second straight week and hosts Mahtomedi on Friday. The Titans have one victory over the Zephyrs in their last nine meetings although they are credited with a second. In 2008, Mahtomedi was forced to forfeit five victories because of the use of an ineligible player and one of those wins was over Tartan.

The Titans’ lone win over Mahtomedi in that stretch came in 2013 when they won in overtime in week six en route to a 6-2 regular season.

Tartan’s first-round opponent was Hill-Murray.

Results from week one of the football season were not available for this edition of the Review bewcause of short holiday deadlines.
