Three Pioneers land on NHL prospects list

Two former Hill-Murray High School hockey players were selected in the National Hockey League entry draft earlier this summer. When the draft rolls around again in 2017, there’s a good chance more Pioneers will hear their names called.

The NHL Central Scouting Bureau puts out rankings of prospects at various times of the year and the players are ranked on how well they will translate to the professional level. NHL Central Scouting released its 2017 futures list and it contained three players will Hill-Murray ties.

Mikey Anderson, Dylan Mills and Marko Reifenberger were among 22 Minnesotans on the list that was released late last month.

Anderson, a defenseman, last played for Hill-Murray in the 2014-15 season. Last season, he was a member of the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League and scored one goal with 15 assists in 57 games.

Anderson is entering his junior year of high school and has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He is expected to join the Bulldogs in the fall of 2018.

Last season as a sophomore, Mills scored 15 goals and added 14 assists for 29 total points for the Pioneers.

Reifenberger has one year of high school eligibility left. He scored 18 goals and added 14 assists for 32 points for Hill-Murray in 2015-16.

Anderson’s older brother Joey was drafted this year in the third round by the New Jersey Devils and is expected to play for Minnesota-Duluth this fall. Casey Staum was the other Hill-Murray player selected in this year’s draft. He went in the fifth round to the Montreal Canadiens.
