State meet awaits for RAHS track and field

The Roseville Area High School track and field teams have one meet remaining on its 2016 schedule. That would be the state meet.

The girls team amassed seven entries and earned three of them by winning titles at the Section 4AA meet on May 31 and June 2 at East Ridge High School.

Sarah Conlon picked up one of those section crowns when she won the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:17.86. That was nearly 16 seconds faster than the time of the runner-up from East Ridge.

Roseville’s other section victories came in field events. Teya Langston took first place in the high jump with a top height of five feet, two inches. Erin Beer won the long jump with a top effort of 17 feet, 1 3/4 inches and won the event by one inch.

Beer added a second state event by finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles. Also heading to state via runner-up finishes at sections are Akedia Jefferson (shot put), Meleah Hansen (discus) and Rachel Goza-Maxwell (triple jump).

The chase for the section team title came down to two teams and in the end White Bear Lake edged Roseville by a single point. The Bears topped out at 170 points while the Raiders settled in at 169 points.

Boys

The Raiders boys squad has four entrants in the state meet.

Sam Adeniyi is a three-event entrant. He qualified for state in the 110-meter hurdles and high jump by finishing second in both events at the Section 4AA state qualifier on June 2.

Adeniyi’s third state event is the 4x400-meter relay, which he’ll run along with teammates Collin Kiley, Jordan Lijewski and Jason Brooks.

Kiley also made state in the 800 meters by winning the event at the section meet.

The section team title went to East Ridge, which scored 130 points and beat runner-up Woodbury by a dozen. Roseville finished fourth with 107 points.

The Class AA state meet, which takes place June 10-11 at Hamline University’s Klas Field, begins at 9 a.m. each day. Day one is mostly prelims with a handful of finals in some field events and the 3,200 meters. Finals in all of the other events are set for day two.
