Beacons finish top four at section true team

Both Concordia Academy track and field teams finished in the top four out of 17 teams at the Section 4A true team meet on May 10 at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School.

The girls team amassed 885 points but lost by 70 points to section champion Trinity. On the boys’ side, the Beacons scored 752 points but couldn’t keep up with section champ Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, which ended up with 939 points.

Concordia Academy earned three first-place finishes in the girls competition. One of them went to the 4x200-meter relay team of freshman Hannah Lageson, sophomore Rachel TerHaar, junior Sally Paul and senior Clara Paul. Their time of 1:52.04 was nearly four seconds faster than the time of the runner-up team from Trinity.

Clara Paul and TerHaar also picked up firsts on their own. TerHaar won the pole vault by clearing nine feet. Maple Lake’s Jordan Sifferle also cleared nine feet but needed three tries to do it while TerHaar cleared it on her second try.

Clara Paul’s leap of 35 feet, 11 inches gave her the victory in the triple jump by three feet, one inch over Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted senior Shelby Kocher. Paul also added a second-place performance in the long jump.

The boys team from Concordia captured two seconds, two thirds and a fifth as its top finishes. Senior Guy Hanson ran second in the 3,200 meters and third in the 1,600 meters. Sophomore Casey Hackett took seconda in the triple jump and junior Cooper Wood finished fifth. Hackett, junior Alex Moldenhauer, freshman Emmet Heck and senior Soren Mundfrom combined to take third in the 4x100-meter relay.

Next up on the schedule for the Beacons are the Tri-Metro Conference championships on May 18 at Hamline University’s Klas Field.
