Hill-Murray baseball headed for MEC showdown with Mahtomedi

Hill-Murray second baseman Austin Peterson tosses the ball to Max Faust (19) at first to end the 4th inning. The Pioneers won 4-2 at home May 3.

Hill-Murray’s baseball team played in the only Metro East Conference game of the day on May 5. The Pioneers, who visited Simley that day, needed a victory over the Spartans to keep pace with Mahtomedi in the conference standings.

Hill-Murray pulled out the victory to pull back into a tie with the Zephyrs. With six Metro East games left for each team, they both sat at 8-2.

Mahtomedi beat Hill-Murray 3-0 in their first meeting of the season back on April 18. Game two between them is set for May 11 at CHS Field, the downtown St. Paul home of the St. Paul Saints.

Hill-Murray had a game on May 9 against Tartan, which sat in third place last week. Mahtomedi faced St. Thomas Academy on May 6 and Simley on May 9. Results of those games were not available for this edition of the Review.

In addition to Mahtomedi, Hill-Murray’s other Metro East Conference loss came at the hands of South St. Paul on April 13. Mahtomedi’s two conference defeats came against Simley on April 18 and South St. Paul on April 29.
