Of the 21 state berths up for grabs at the Section 4AA gymnastics meet on Feb. 13, the team from Roseville Area High School nabbed 16 of them. The Raiders entered the meet ranked No. 1 in the state in Class AA and showed why.

Roseville claimed its 11th consecutive section team title with a score of 147.975, its second-best of the season. The Raiders also secured 15 of the 20 available individual state berths.

Roseville’s contingent competed at the state meet this past weekend, past the deadline for this edition of the Review.

Junior Jessica Strecker led the Raiders and the section by winning three individual events and the all-around title. Strecker’s best event was the floor exercise, which she won with a score of 9.575. That tied for the highest individual event score of the meet.

Strecker won the balance beam with a 9.55, the uneven parallel bars with a 9.375 and the all-around title with a 38. The vault was the one event Strecker was unable to capture but she still took third place with a 9.5.

Junior Kayla Soplata also qualified for state in all four events and the all-around. She finished second on the bars (9.175), floor exercise (9.5) and in the all-around standing (37.575); was third on the beam (9.45); and fourth on the vault (9.45).

Junior Olivia Rosenow made state in three events and the all-around. Her top event was the vault, in which she took second with a score of 9.5. She added third-place finishes on the bars (9.05) and the floor exercise (9.35) and finished fourth in the all-around standings (36.525).

Roseville’s final state berth went to senior Emily Pariseau, who qualified on the bars by finishing fourth with a score of 8.825.

North St. Paul’s Tori Gardner prevented Roseville from sweeping first place in all the events by winning the vault with a score of 9.575. Also claiming state berths from the section were Mounds View’s Sarah Voytilla on the beam and Stillwater’s Gretchen Sharp on the floor exercise, balance beam and all-around.

By winning the section team title, Roseville earned the chance to defend its state championship and try to make it five titles in a row. Last year’s state team title gave the Raiders four in a row for the second time in 10 years. Roseville also won four consecutive championships from 2006 to 2009.
