Busy stretch ahead for Rosetown legion baseball

The Rosetown American Legion baseball team enjoyed a quiet week last week but the schedule is about to get busier in a hurry.

The Rockets played just twice last week and went 1-1 to remain at .500 in Fourth District play. Rosetown lost 5-0 to district-leading Hamline Purple on June 23 but bounced back to snag an 8-4 victory over North St. Paul Cavalry the next night.

Rosetown was scheduled to play Tri-City Red on Sunday at CHS Field but that contest was postponed due to rain. A makeup date had not been announced prior to the deadline for this edition of the Review.

Rosetown has just one district game scheduled this week. The Rockets face the North St. Paul 39ers on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at CHS Field.

After a couple of days off, Rosetown heads south for the Upper Midwest Classic in New Ulm. The tournament features 16 teams separated into four pools of four teams each. Each team plays its other three pool-mates to determine which teams advance to the playoff portion of the tournament. The top two teams in each pool advance while the bottom two teams play consolation games on Saturday and then are done for the weekend.

The Rockets open the tournament on Friday at 11 a.m. against Chaska and then play Apple Valley at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Rosetown faces Brandon Valley, a team from South Dakota, at 10 a.m.

Next week, Rosetown plays two more district games before taking part in the Gopher Classic tournament that weekend (July 10-12). The Rockets’ pool games for the tournament take place at Red Haddox Field in Bloomington.
