The Roseville Area High School track and field teams competed in last week’s Section 6AAA true team meet. The Raiders came through with some notable individual performances, but were unable to clinch a spot in this week’s state true team meet.

Roseville’s girls team gave Mounds View a tussle, but fell short of the top spot in the team standings. Mounds View amassed 1,130.5 points to outscore the Raiders by 125 points. On the boys’ side, Roseville finished third behind first-place Mounds View and runner-up North St. Paul.

Individually, Roseville posted five event victories. The girls team came up with three and the boys added two.

The girls’ best event turned out to be the 400-meter dash, in which the Raiders took the top two spots. Nicole Willmus won the event with a time of 1:00.54 and Megan Eklund was second in 1:01.46.

Roseville also picked up a first when Teya Langston cleared five feet to win the high jump. Erin Beer took first in the long jump by three inches with a top leap of 17 feet, five inches. Beer also took second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Collin Kiley came up with one of Roseville’s firsts on the boys’ side when he won the 800 meters in a time of 2:02.82. Kiley added a runner-up performance in the 1,600 meters.

Sam Adeniyi won one of the closer races of the meet when he edged Mounds View’s Matt Baker, the defending state champion in the 110-meter hurdles, by less than a tenth of a second in the 300-meter hurdles. Adeniyi’s time was 40.90 seconds while Baker clocked in at 40.99.

Adeniyi and Baker swapped spots in the 110-meter hurdles as Baker’s time of 15.23 seconds was just a hair faster than Adeniyi’s mark of 15.42.

Both Roseville teams are off this week so they’ll spend their time preparing for the final three weeks of the season. Next up on the schedule is the Suburban East Conference championship meet on May 19 and 21 at East Ridge High School. The week of Memorial Day has the Raiders competing for state-meet berths at the Section 4AA meet at Stillwater Area High School. The state meet is scheduled for June 5 and 6 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
