Former Mustangs shine in college indoor track season

A trio of former Mounds View High School track and field standouts got their college seasons off to a great start with appearances in national indoor meets in March.

Kelsey Bethke, Laurisa Titterud and Alex Titterud all earned All-American status with their performances.

Bethke is a senior at Winona State and she earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division II national indoor meet in Birmingham, Alabama. She ran on the Warriors' 4x400-meter relay team that finished fourth in a school-record time of 3:47.10. That beat the previous record by more than two seconds.

Winona sent six athletes to the national meet and all six turned in All-American performances and helped the team finish ninth. It was ranked 32nd entering the meet.

Laurisa and Alex Titterud are both juniors at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and they teamed up to earn All-American honors at the NCAA Division III national meet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They were two of the four members of Stout's 4x400-meter relay team that placed eighth at nationals.

Laurisa also competed in the 400-meter dash at nationals and finished 13th.

Earlier in the season, Laurisa and Alex helped the 4x400 team win the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. Laurisa also won the 400-meter dash at the WIAC meet and bettered the school record that she already held.
