Young Titans hoping to run away from opposition

The Tartan Titans will be entering the 2015 boys track and field season with only five seniors to bolster their lineup. But that doesn't mean the team will be without experienced competitors.

Leading the Titans into the Metro East Conference and non-conference competitions this spring will be a pair of junior co-captains -- Sam Nofziger and Chase Fleischauer.

Nofziger is distance runner specializing in the 3200-meter and 1600-meter races, while Fleischauer is a long-jump and triple-jump competitor.

Leading the boys track and field team is head coach Karl Ermisch. His assistants will be: Matt Duffee who will work with the distance runners; Don Schuette, who will be in charge of the throwers; and James Butler who is in head up the hurdle runners and those involved with the horizontal jumps.

In addition to the junior captains, Ermisch cited as likely point-getters for the 2015 squad: seniors Buddy Prell (sprints and relays) and Riese Bushinski (400 meter); sophomores Xavier Pinex (400 meter) and Lorenzo Huckleberry (200 meter); and freshman Cyrus Kalkware (100 meter).

The Titans are scheduled to open the season Tuesday, April 7 against MEC foes Simley, St. Thomas Academy, Henry Sibley and Hastings in a 4 p.m. meet at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls campus.

They will travel to Cottage Grove for the Park Invitational at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, and host the MEC Relays at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.

With the uncertainty of the weather, there may be a need to reschedule games. Rescheduled contests may be found by going to <classicsuburban.org>. Click on the school. Scroll to the sport, then click on "view" to see revamped schedules.
