RAMS students earn human rights essay contest honors

Roseville Area Middle School students Elite Thor, Elizabeth Hansel and Julia Brand were recently named the top three finalists of Roseville’s human rights essay contest, sponsored by the Roseville Human Rights Commission. The prompt for this year’s contest was “provide at least two specific examples of how language results in the violation of or protection of human rights.”

Thor, a seventh grader, took first place. His essay cited examples of individuals discriminating against others based on sexual orientation and race. His essay will be entered in the statewide League of Human Rights Commissions contest.

Hansel and Brand, both eighth graders, took second and third, respectively.

Copies of the winning essays are available to read at www.cityofroseville.com/humanrights.
