Mortgage foreclosure numbers continue falling in Washington County

Mortgage foreclosure numbers continue to fall in Washington County, information that the County Board received at its meeting March 10.

The county had 395 foreclosures in 2014, down from the high of about 1,250 during the height of the recession and the housing foreclosure crisis in 2008-2010. The foreclosure rate decline began in 2011 and has continued to decline ever since.

The county commissioners also received a review of the foreclosure process in Minnesota, which includes the possibility of a sheriff’s sale, and a period of time in which the mortgage holder can redeem the property from the foreclosure process.
