A thrilling goal in the 90th minute by Australia native Ryan Flynn moved the Century College men’s soccer team past Joliet Junior College (IL) on Saturday, Nov. 2, 1-0. The District C Championship victory sends the Century College team to the NJCAA National Tournament in Herkimer, New York for the first time in school history.

“It was an exciting game that came down to the last second,” fifth-year Head Coach Dave Palmer said. “I am very proud of our team. We’re a young team, but resilient. It’s great to see all of their hard work pay off, and we hope for continued success in the National Tournament.”

The Century soccer program is in its sixth year and has been improving each season. This year’s roster included a lot of talent, with a mixture of local players, as well as international players.

“We have players from all over the world—Australia, Columbia, Indonesia—as well as players from our local communities,” said Coach Palmer. “They all have a long history of playing soccer in their respective school systems. It has been great to see them develop as players and come together as a team throughout the season.”

Guaranteed at least two games in the National Tournament, Century will play Montgomery College (MD) on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m.
