Purse snatched from vehicle with sleeping child: A woman reported someone smashed the passenger-side window of her locked vehicle parked at Tartan Ice Arena April 6 and stole her purse containing her wallet, cash, and credit cards. An 11-year-old girl was sleeping in the vehicle when the theft occurred. The thief was reportedly seen leaving in a small rusty white four-door vehicle being driven by another man. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. An investigation is pending.

Tax fraud: On April 5, a man reported he’d received a notice from the IRS that he’d filed an amendment to his 2011 federal taxes and now owes them more than $2,000. The man said he’d never authorized an amendment, and that he’d also received a “replacement” NetSpend credit card for an account he’d never opened. The man said NetSpend provided him with the name of the primary cardholder for the account, which is the name of the man who had prepared his family’s federal tax forms in early 2012. That victim said that man had attempted to have his tax refund put in his own name, but that he’d been able to intercept the attempt. Police advised the victim to speak with the IRS about the fraudulent activity.

Shoes stolen: A man reported that someone had stolen his son’s black and green Adidas tennis shoes valued at $90 from a storage cubby at Sky Zone April 7. The man reviewed surveillance footage of the incident and said he believes the suspect is a boy who attends school with his son. The surveillance footage was booked into evidence and the case is pending.

Window smashed: A woman reported someone broke the passenger-side window of her car parked outside LA Fitness April 6 and stole her cell phone and blue Michael Kors purse containing a blue Coach wallet. The woman canceled her credit cards and suspended her phone service.

Auto theft: Police received a report of an auto theft April 8. A woman said someone stole her 1999 Saturn from a parking lot on the 6200 block of 40th Street sometime on April 7 or 8.

Laptop taken: A man said sometime on April 5 or 6, a thief stole his laptop bag containing an HP laptop, wireless iInternet hub, Netflix DVD and car keys from his locked vehicle parked in a driveway on the 7000 block of 15th Street. The total value of the items was $950. There are no suspects in the theft.

Stolen plate: A license plate was reported stolen from the 6000 block of Upper 51st Street April 9. There are no suspects in the theft.
