Hansen Park reconstruction should be ‘largely done’ this fall

In an effort to prevent future flooding, the Rice Creek Watershed District and New Brighton have undertaken a $4.8 million water storage reconstruction project at Hansen Park, which should be mostly complete this year.

Roseville raises age to buy tobacco to 21, is 11th MN city to do so


courtesy of Chris Turner, Association of Nonsmokers-MN • Supporters of Tobacco 21, a campaign that aims to increase the purchase age for tobacco products from 18 to 21, showed up in force at Roseville City Hall June 18 to press the Roseville City Council to increase the age. The council did so with a unanimous vote, and come mid-July those who wish to purchase tobacco products in Roseville will need to be 21 years old to do so.

With a unanimous June 18 city council vote, Roseville became the 11th Minnesota city to up the age at which people can buy tobacco products to 21.

The city code amendment was met with a round of applause from a packed council chambers.

Former Little Canada city administrator looks back on 28 years in post


courtesy of City of Little Canada • Joel Hanson, Little Canada’s former city administrator, said farewell to his job of 28 years on June 22. On June 25 he started his new job as South St. Paul’s city administrator.

Little Canada’s now former city administrator, Joel Hanson, says his favorite thing about his time with the city was changing people’s expectations about what municipal government could do for them.

New Brighton police see, laugh at, poorly hidden crime


courtesy of New Brighton Department of Public Safety • The New Brighton Department of Public Safety posted this picture to Facebook on June 16 of a poorly camouflaged, stolen U-Haul truck, barely-tucked away in Long Lake Park in New Brighton. “It’s really hard to hide a U-Haul in the woods,” the post said.

“Making cops laugh at the attempt to camouflage a U-Haul makes them happier,” said a June 16 Facebook post from the New Brighton Department of Public Safety.
