Abbey Carpet: A family business that can make your home beautiful

Peter Wilson has been in the remodeling business for 40 years, and purchased Abbey Carpet of Mounds View in 2015.

The best!

Abbey Carpet of Mounds View was just outstanding. The customer service was excellent and we were very happy with what they did.

No complaints, great service.

We had Abbey Carpet of Mound View replace some linoleum tile in our kitchen, hallway, laundry and bathroom areas. They came out and got us some good sample and they had really good suggestions about what type and style we should get.

Once they came out and did the work they were very efficient in measuring the tiles and get everything laid in a timely manner.

We really had no complaints at all. They were all great.

Very Professional
and Excellent Work

Abbey Carpet of Mounds View came to my residence to install a wood grain laminated floor in my kitchen. I was very satisfied with the results. I think the prices were reasonable. The installers were excellent and on time.

Large selection of beautiful products

“A friend at church told me about Abbey Carpet, so we went in to see them. They have a beautiful store with lots of samples to choose from so it was easy to find exactly what we wanted. The girls were very pleasant and helpful. The carpet was installed the day it was supposed to be and it is beautiful.”

Whole House

Abbey Carpet of Mounds View have carpeted my whole house, they put in linoleum in the kitchen and tile in the bathrooms. Over the years they have pretty much done the whole house.

Everything always turns out great. They are professional, on time and have great products. We have always been satisfied with the work they do.

“It’s a passion of former owner John Kopas and a passion of mine to be in the remodeling business,” says Wilson, who has nearly 40 years experience in all facets of the remodeling industry.

He says the biggest reason he’s still in the business is the pleasure he gets from seeing customers’ delighted faces when they see the final results.

“I really get an enjoyment of when it’s all said and done; it just totally transforms a house. The satisfaction you get of making a home a place people want to be in can’t be measured,” Wilson says.

A wide variety of products can be found in Abbey’s 8,000-square-foot showroom, including over 1,250 styles of carpet, large selection of flooring (including ceramic tile, hardwood and vinyl), window coverings and paint.

Walking into Abbey Carpet, it’s almost like you are walking into a big-box store because of the variety of products offered.  But the friendly, knowledgeable staff and competitive prices set Abbey Carpet above the impersonal big-box retailers.

When Wilson took over he added new services including carpet cleaning and water-damage restoration.

The staff at Abbey Carpet have been involved in the industry for many years, with combined experience of 250 years. Wilson points out that the store’s installers all have at least 20 years of experience, so customers can be assured their carpet, flooring and window treatments will be installed properly the first time.

“We’re helping homeowners throughout the process --from making choices that best suit their lifestyles and budgets, all the way through to the installation,” Wilson says.

The work done by the Abbey employees hasn’t gone unrecognized. Abbey Carpet has been the recipient of Angie’s Super Service Award six years in a row.

Staff at Abbey Carpet will go out of their way to help all customers and there is lifetime guarantee on installations.

If homeowners ever have a problem with Abbey flooring, they are getting a new floor. “We’ll repair it up to new,” Wilson says. “We have a 60-day, no-questions asked policy. If they don’t even like the color, well replace it.”

It runs in the family

Unlike big-box stores, Abby Carpet is family affair. Wilson’s wife Betty and sons Pete and Wes work at the store. Even the couple’s grandsons are involved.

“We’re actually on our third generation,” Wilson says.

He adds that both Pete and Wes served in the military and “aren’t afraid to do what’s right” for customers. Eventually, Pete and Wes will take over the company when their father retires.

Wes had been working on-and-off with the family for a long time, and, like a lot of young people, tried working outside of the family business. But he says he kept coming back because it made sense.

“If family is the most important thing, then it should be the most important thing and the thing you spend the most time with,” Wes says.

In this line of work, Wes says he gets to help people improve their homes and lives. And because this is a family business, Wes says customers are treated like family.

When you purchase home improvements from Abbey Carpet, you are working with a staff that understands how important a home is for a family.

“We have an understanding of how important that is. Their home is where they spend the most time with their family”, Peter says. “That’s why we like doing this: the satisfaction of making something nice for someone and improving a home.”
